The Taste of Auburn Hills announces winners

This year's Taste of Auburn Hills served up a bit more than expected. The 17 restaurants offered a variety of delicious food and beverages and there were a large number of visitors who would not be undone by the dire weather predictions.

The Taste began at 5 p.m. as scheduled, with food and beverages being served and music in the air. However, so were big, black clouds. As the rain increased rapidly, the city put emergency plans into place by 6:15 p.m., evacuating the Taste tents and the Showcase. By 6:30 p.m., visitors were allowed to re-enter the tents.

One of the Taste's winning chefs remarked that he thought everyone might go home, but instead, the crowd returned and were even hungrier. The Taste did go on and local restaurants were awarded.

Winners include:

• Best Presentation (voted by chamber board members) - Chartwells,    Oakland University and Montana's Cookhouse.
• Judge's Award sponsored by Rockford Construction Company - bd's Mongolian Grill.
• People's Choice Award (voted by attending guests) Fine Dining -Sponsored by Baker College - Palace Grille.
• Casual Dining - sponsored by Rockford Construction Company -Chartwells, Oakland University.
• On the Go Dining - Sponsored by Baker College - COSTCO.
